Opening Snapshot

The second I walked into Santa Barbara La Coronilla Drive, I had the same thought I always have when a renovation is done right: somebody really cared here. You can feel it almost immediately. This home has clearly been through a thoughtful transformation, and it shows in all the right places. The kitchen feels fresh and modern, the bathrooms have been beautifully redone, the finishes feel current without being trendy, and somehow it still manages to feel warm, comfortable, and completely livable. The layout also works really well. Just off the front entry is a cozy TV room that immediately felt like the perfect flex space - movie room, reading room, or honestly one of the better work-from-home setups we’ve seen. Beyond that, the house opens beautifully into a bright, connected living room, dining room, and kitchen that all flow naturally toward the backyard. It has that easy Santa Barbara indoor-outdoor rhythm where people naturally gather, linger longer than they planned, and start opening another bottle of wine because nobody’s ready to go inside yet.

What we love

What I loved most about this home is how easy it feels to actually live here. Some remodels feel like they were done for resale photos. This one feels like it was done by someone who actually understands how people move through a house. The kitchen has been completely reimagined and now feels bright, clean, and modern, while the bathrooms feel fresh and polished without losing warmth. The open-concept living space works beautifully for families, couples, or friends traveling together, and the backyard, while not enormous, is exactly what it needs to be. Sweet, private, manageable, and a great extension of the house for morning coffee, outdoor dinners, or just soaking up that Santa Barbara weather. Location-wise, this is also a really strong pocket of Santa Barbara. You’re tucked into the Mesa area, which locals love because it gives you that neighborhood feel while still keeping you close to everything. Beaches, downtown, the harbor, coffee shops, groceries, restaurants, and some of the best outdoor recreation in the city are all nearby. It feels residential in the best possible way - not touristy, not overly flashy, just a genuinely great place to live for a month or more. And one of my favorite little surprises? You’re right near Honda Valley Park. For anyone who likes getting outside, this is a huge bonus. Honda Valley is a peaceful 70+ acre open space tucked into the Mesa, with walking trails, gentle elevation, oak groves, seasonal wildflowers, and some really beautiful ocean and mountain views depending on where you wander. It’s not a hardcore all-day mountain hike, but for morning walks, dog walks, trail runs, or a quick nature reset between Zoom calls, it’s pretty fantastic.

Keep in mind

This isn’t some giant estate with a pool, guest house, and acres of manicured grounds. Personally, I think that’s part of the charm. It feels approachable, manageable, and very real. The backyard is lovely, but modest. It’s more “hang outside with friends and grill dinner” than “host a 50-person garden party.” And while the Mesa is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Santa Barbara, it’s still more residential than resort-like. You’re not stepping out your front door onto the beach or into a row of boutiques and cafés. That said, you’re close enough to all of it that it never feels inconvenient.

Work Mode

This house actually works really well for remote work. The front TV room immediately stood out as a perfect dedicated office space. It’s tucked away just enough from the main living areas to take calls or focus without feeling isolated, and the rest of the house has plenty of natural light and comfortable spaces to move around throughout the day. I also loved that if you need a break, you can literally head across the street toward Honda Valley, clear your head on a trail, and come back ready to work again. Honestly, that’s a pretty strong work setup.

Getting around

One of the best parts of this location is how balanced it feels. You’re in the Mesa, one of Santa Barbara’s most beloved neighborhoods, and only minutes from beaches like Leadbetter Beach, the Santa Barbara Harbor, and downtown Santa Barbara. Grocery stores, local cafés, yoga studios, restaurants, and outdoor recreation are all nearby. It’s the kind of location where you quickly start feeling less like a visitor and more like a local.
