I could live with this location for a month very easily. Telluride San Juan Avenue Loft House puts you right in town with four bedrooms, five bathrooms and a clean, contemporary interior that feels more urban than rustic mountain lodge. White oak floors and modern finishes keep everything simple, but the real luxury is what happens when you walk outside. Telluride is right there. Dinner doesn't require a car. Coffee doesn't require a plan. Shops, galleries and festival activity are part of the neighborhood, and skiing is connected through Telluride's town-side lift and gondola system. I love a spectacular mountain estate, but there's something equally luxurious about handing everyone a key and letting them come and go independently. For four couples or a family with older kids, that freedom would be a big reason I'd choose this house.

What we love

The four-bedroom, five-bath configuration is unusually adult friendly for an in-town Telluride property. More importantly, I love the rhythm of staying here. You can ski, come home, change and walk back out for dinner without organizing transportation for the entire group. The contemporary design also feels right for the location. Instead of pretending to be a giant backcountry lodge, the house embraces being a polished residence in the middle of town.

Keep in mind

You're choosing town energy over seclusion. Telluride gets lively during festivals and peak periods, and that's naturally going to be more noticeable here than at a private Mountain Village estate. For us, that's part of the reason to stay here.

Work Mode

Perfectly workable for a long stay, but there isn't a dedicated office strong enough to make workability the headline.

The brag

I like the white oak and contemporary interiors, but my real brag is walking home after dinner. That's a luxury I appreciate more every time we stay somewhere for a month.

This is a Telluride-first house. The town isn't something you drive over to visit. You're living in it.

Getting around

This is one of the portfolio's strongest car-light locations. Colorado Avenue, restaurants, cafes, shops and galleries are within practical walking distance, while Telluride Ski Resort is accessed through the town-side lift and gondola network. In warmer months, Town Park, Bear Creek Trail, Jud Wiebe Trail, biking, festivals and the gondola give you plenty to do without getting in the car.
