The materials are the first thing we notice. Concrete can feel cold and walnut can feel heavy, but together they give the interiors a warmth and texture that a lot of cleaner white-box moderns are missing. Add the glass and you get a nice balance: solid and tactile inside, open toward the hills outside. The rooftop is the payoff. This is where we’d head as afternoon turns into evening, when the Valley starts changing from landscape to lights. Because the house is more compact, the rooftop feels like a genuine extra living room rather than one more amenity you forget exists. We also like the private spa. It suits the scale of Farley better than trying to force a huge resort pool onto the site. Come home, head upstairs, soak for a while and watch the day disappear.
