This might be one of my favorite location stories in Park City because the house actually feels like it belongs there. Park City Woodside Avenue is an Old Town cottage, not a newly built mountain mansion. The hardwood, historic character and more intimate scale give it a personality that you simply can't manufacture by putting reclaimed wood into a new house. Then you walk outside and the location takes over. You're close enough to the lifts and Main Street that a car stops being the organizing principle of the vacation. Coffee, dinner, shopping and skiing can all become part of the everyday rhythm. For a month in Park City, that matters to me. I'd rather have a little less house and be able to walk out the door into a real town than have another thousand feet of living room somewhere that requires a car for everything. This one feels like living in Park City rather than visiting a ski resort.

What we love

The historic character is first. So many mountain homes are variations on the same stone, timber and oversized-glass formula. This house has a reason to look different because it actually comes from Park City's Old Town fabric. Then there's the walkability. I love being able to head out for coffee without organizing transportation, wander Main Street after dinner or walk toward skiing rather than loading gear into a vehicle. For an extended stay, those little freedoms add up. The house has been updated without erasing the character that makes it interesting, which is exactly what I want from an older home.

Keep in mind

This is a cottage-scale residence, not one of the giant Park City estates. You're trading indoor sprawl and resort-style amenities for character and location. And that's exactly how I'd evaluate it. If you need a theater, gym and multiple game rooms, choose another house. If you want Park City outside your door, keep reading.

Work Mode

A smaller footprint means fewer places to completely disappear for a workday, but the location is excellent for a long stay where someone needs to work part of the time.

The brag

The architecture is my brag. Give me an authentic Old Town cottage with real character over a brand-new house pretending to be old. And being able to walk to dinner makes it even better.

I'll give up the giant game room for this location. Being able to walk toward the lift in the morning and Main Street at night is an amenity in itself.

This one is about character plus walkability, and there aren't enough mountain rentals where both are genuinely good.

Getting around

This is one of the easiest homes in the portfolio for a car-light Park City stay. Historic Main Street's restaurants, cafés, bars, galleries and shops are within practical walking distance, and Park City Mountain/Town Lift access is also close enough to make walking a realistic part of the ski plan. Fare-free city transit covers trips you don't want to make on foot. Outside winter, Old Town gives you excellent access to Park City's hiking and mountain-biking network, while Main Street remains active with restaurants, events and shopping.
