This is pretty much how I want a family ski house configured. Three king bedrooms for adults. A bunk room for the kids. Private hot tub. Real mountain views. And skiing close enough that the morning doesn't begin by loading everyone into cars. Mountain Village San Joaquin Road Sundance is a true log cabin with timber beams, angled windows, a big stone fireplace and just enough playful color to keep all that wood from feeling too serious. The kitchen has a tiered island and oversized appliances, and there are two additional lounge areas, which becomes increasingly important the longer ten people live together. But the best part is how naturally the house supports a ski trip. The mountain isn't something you drive over to visit. It's why the house is here.

What we love

Three kings plus bunks is an excellent family configuration. I also love the 360-degree mountain outlook and the hot tub. If you're going to sit outside in freezing weather, there should be a very good reason. The primary suite gets a fireplace, balcony, soaking tub and steam shower, while another bedroom includes a desk. And having multiple lounge areas means kids and adults don't have to agree on how every evening is spent.

Keep in mind

Parking is limited to two vehicles, so coordinate transportation if you're filling all ten sleeping spots. Direct ski access also depends on snow and resort operations, which is true of virtually every slopeside mountain house.

Work Mode

Better than average. There's a workspace in one of the guest rooms, and multiple living areas give someone options for taking a call.

Getting around

Telluride Ski Resort is immediately relevant here, with strong ski access and the Market Gondola within walking reach. Mountain Village transportation can handle many local trips, while a car remains useful for broader errands. The free gondola connects Mountain Village with Telluride town. Summer changes the experience completely: hiking, mountain biking and golf are all nearby, and the gondola makes it easy to move between Mountain Village and Telluride without driving.
