The slopes are basically across the street. That gets my attention. Mountain Village San Joaquin Lair is a family-friendly Mountain Village residence where every bedroom gets its own bathroom, the ski connection is close enough to reach on foot and the hot tub is waiting on the deck when you get back. That's a very clean ski-house proposition. I also like that the house doesn't depend on one spectacular gimmick. It's the combination that works: mountain setting, practical bedroom privacy, easy ski access and a hot tub exactly where you'd expect to use it. This feels like a house designed by somebody who actually understands what a family ski trip looks like.

What we love

Every bedroom having its own bath matters. It sounds mundane until several adults and kids are trying to get ready at the same time. I also love the simple ski-day routine. Gear up, head toward the mountain, ski all day and come back to the hot tub. That's Telluride without unnecessary complication.

Keep in mind

Trees partially interrupt some interior views, so this isn't the panoramic glass-box experience of some of the other houses. Ski access across the street can also vary with snowbank and winter conditions.

Work Mode

Perfectly usable, although skiing and family functionality are much stronger reasons to book it.

Getting around

Telluride Ski Resort is the primary mountain, and the relevant ski connection can be reached on foot from this San Joaquin Road setting. Mountain Village Core and the free gondola handle restaurants, shopping and connections into Telluride town. In summer, hiking, mountain biking, golf and the gondola turn the same location into a very good outdoor-adventure base.
