There's a bowling alley. Inside the house. I could probably stop there. Mountain Village Polecat Lane is a ten-bedroom, eleven-bath mountain estate for 27 people, and it doesn't pretend to be anything other than completely over the top. There's a theater, game room, wellness space, hot tub and ski access, but the private bowling alley is the detail that tells you what kind of house this is. This isn't somewhere I'd rent for eight people because I wanted extra space. This is somewhere I'd rent for a family reunion, a milestone birthday or several families traveling together who want the house itself to be part of the entertainment. At this scale, the house isn't simply where you sleep after skiing. It becomes your own private mountain resort.

What we love

The bowling alley is ridiculous, and I mean that entirely as a compliment. But I may love the theater almost as much. When 20-plus people are staying together, you need places for the group to break apart. Some people can watch a movie. Others can play games. Kids can bowl. Someone else can disappear into the spa. That's what makes this much more functional than a giant house with one enormous great room.

Keep in mind

This house is huge. For a smaller group, I wouldn't choose it. The scale only becomes a benefit when you actually have enough people to use the bedrooms and entertainment spaces. The residential Mountain Village setting also means transportation remains part of the stay.

Work Mode

There are enough rooms in this house to find somewhere quiet, but let's be serious: nobody is choosing the ten-bedroom house with a bowling alley because of its Zoom-call potential.

Getting around

Plan on using a vehicle or Mountain Village transportation for restaurants, shopping and some ski logistics. Telluride Ski Resort is the mountain, Mountain Village Core is the nearby dining and shopping center, and the free gondola connects you with Telluride town. In summer, the area opens up to hiking, mountain biking, golf and scenic gondola access. For a group this large, guided outdoor activities and group adventures become especially appealing.
