The house wakes with the light and the volume of that peaked ceiling, coffee at the wet bar, the stone cool underfoot. Midday pulls you to the glass, where the floor-to-ceiling windows turn the whole hillside into the view and the loft above offers a perch for reading or working with the room falling away below. Then there is the deck, which runs the entire back of the home and is really the reason to book. Golden hour is when it earns its keep. As the sun drops over the basin, the outdoor seating fills up, and nobody suggests going anywhere. Then the lights come on. We found ourselves thinking the city does the entertaining here, the slow switch from dusk to a carpet of light doing more than any planned evening could. The two enclosed suites mean both couples, or whoever is sharing, get a real door and a full bath of their own, so the closeness of the house never tips into cramped.
