The interiors have personality. There's a sea of black, white and warm neutrals, but then something unexpected interrupts it. A red sofa. A piece of art. A different texture. Maria Barry's work gives the house a more collected feeling, and the smaller scale makes those decisions noticeable. We also love the game room and bar. There's a pool table, pinball machine and arcade games—the kind of stuff that sounds almost secondary on an amenity list and then ends up becoming one of the most-used parts of the house. How much fun is that? Start a pool tournament, discover who's weirdly good at pinball, pour something at the bar and suddenly nobody cares that there's no swimming pool outside. Then there are the terraces and that huge sweep of Los Angeles beyond them. This may actually be a house we like more at night than during the day. Games going inside, fireplace on, city lights below, something good in the glass. No pool required.
