Genesee Farmhouse somehow manages to visit three different places without leaving central Los Angeles. From the street, there’s an East Coast farmhouse quality. Inside, wide-plank herringbone wood and refined finishes give it a more European polish. Then the pocket doors disappear and suddenly you’re looking at palms, a Bali-inspired pool, spa and firepit. And just beyond all of it is Melrose. That’s what makes this house fun. It isn’t trying to convince you you’re on a giant estate somewhere outside the city. It’s a cosmopolitan farmhouse with a tropical backyard in the middle of LA. You can spend the morning working, walk out into one of the city’s most active neighborhoods, come home for a swim and finish the night in the theater.
