From the street, Los Angeles North Gardner Street doesn’t give everything away. There is something almost old-school California about it: gates, greenery, a more traditional façade, and none of the glass-box bravado you see all over modern LA. Then you walk inside. The rooms are bright and contemporary, the kitchen feels ready for a houseful, and out back, walls and mature landscaping wrap around a pool and spa that feel surprisingly removed from the city. That contrast is what makes this house interesting. You can spend the morning walking Beverly Grove, meet friends for lunch, shop Melrose in the afternoon, and come home to a place that feels private enough to forget where you are. For a family settling into Los Angeles for a month, it offers something we really like: all the energy and style you came to LA for, without having to live in a house that feels like it was designed for a photo shoot.

What we love

This house gets the balance between traditional and modern just right. The exterior has the warmth and familiarity of classic California architecture, while inside, the design becomes cleaner and more contemporary. It feels current without feeling cold. In a city filled with spectacular modern homes that can sometimes start to blur together, Gardner has an identity of its own. We also love how much privacy the property creates in the middle of Beverly Grove. High walls, gates, and mature landscaping wrap around the backyard, giving the pool and spa a sense of separation from the city. It is the kind of outdoor space where lunch can happen in swimsuits and nobody feels particularly exposed to the neighborhood around them. Inside, there is room for a full household to operate without constantly being together. Multiple lounges give people places to peel off, while the wet bar and dedicated theater create completely different gathering spaces. Five ensuite bedrooms help too. This is a house where ten people could have ten different afternoons and still feel like they are sharing a home.

Keep in mind

Gardner Street knows what kind of guest it wants. This is a house for family dinners, relaxed afternoons, and evenings at home, not late-night parties. The neighbors value their quiet, and the property manager is very clear about keeping outdoor music and voices under control, particularly at night. For the right guest, we don’t see that as much of a compromise. The five bedrooms are split between two floors, with two downstairs and three upstairs. We actually like that arrangement for a multigenerational stay. Grandparents can avoid the stairs, while teenagers, another couple, or part of the family can have some separation upstairs. Just know that if your group wants everyone sleeping on the same level, this isn’t that house. The bigger picture is simple: Gardner is best for guests who want a private home base in the middle of LA, not a house built around entertaining late into the night.

Work Mode

There is a dedicated office for anyone who needs to shut the door and actually work, with additional living spaces available when two people have calls at the same time. The real advantage is separation: work can happen in one part of the house without turning the entire home into an office.

I love that Gardner doesn’t look like every other new house in LA. The more traditional California exterior gives it character, while the modern interiors deliver everything you want once you step inside. It feels current without trying too hard to prove how modern it is.

I’m taking the theater, but specifically the bean bag. A proper movie room is great especially if you watch every oscar nominated film like I do; a movie room comfortable enough that nobody cares where they sit is better. By week three, everyone will have claimed a favorite spot, and I’m pretty sure mine would be on the floor.

The privacy is the surprise. Gardner puts you in the middle of Beverly Grove, then somehow creates a home where closing the gate makes Los Angeles feel much farther away.

Getting around

Beverly Grove is one of the reasons to choose this house. The Grove, Original Farmers Market, Melrose Avenue, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood are all close, with restaurants, shopping, and everyday errands nearby. You’ll still use a car or rideshare, but this is a neighborhood where occasionally leaving on foot is actually part of the fun.
