Sunset Manor began with one of California modernism’s important architects, Steven Ehrlich, and then got something many architectural houses never receive: a thoughtful second act. The 1953 Hollywood Hills residence was later reimagined by OSKLO, who warmed the modernist bones with a more organic, contemporary interior language. That’s what interests us. This isn’t a museum restoration where everyone is expected to admire the original architecture from a respectful distance, nor is it a remodel that erased what came before. It’s an architectural handoff across generations. Glass, openness and hillside living remain part of the DNA, but the house now feels warmer, more textured and easier to inhabit. In a city that routinely demolishes yesterday’s house to build tomorrow’s, Sunset Manor’s evolution feels refreshingly grown-up.

What we love

We like houses that reveal layers. Here, the modernist structure gives you proportion and connection to the hillside, while the later interiors soften the experience through warmer materials and a more residential sensibility. The result is especially effective because the house doesn’t need to rely on size for impact. The pool and outdoor spaces extend the architecture naturally, while the dedicated office makes the home capable of supporting an actual month in Los Angeles rather than simply a design weekend. There’s maturity here. The house has been allowed to evolve without pretending its history never happened.

Keep in mind

Sunset Manor is an architectural hillside home rather than a new-build mega-estate. Guests seeking ten bedrooms, giant entertainment complexes or the newest possible finishes should look elsewhere. Hillside access also means the Sunset Strip may look close below you without being somewhere we’d recommend casually walking.

Work Mode

A dedicated office and relatively calm architectural environment make this an excellent working house. The hardest part may be remembering that the Sunset Strip is waiting below when you’re finished.

Getting around

You’re above the Sunset Strip, so West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Hollywood are all nearby by car. The Hollywood Bowl, Runyon Canyon and Sunset’s restaurants and nightlife can easily shape the month, while the hillside setting gives you somewhere quieter to return afterward.
