There is a point where a house stops having amenities and starts having everything. Donella crosses that line pretty quickly. The three-story glass estate rises above Bel Air with walls that disappear, a 70-foot infinity pool stretching across the view, a sunken firepit seemingly floating in the water, and roughly 2,000 square feet of rooftop terrace above it all. Then you go inside and discover the theater. And the gym. And the wine cellar. And the bar. And the elevator. And somehow another terrace. Built in 2020, the house is more than 11,000 square feet of unapologetic modern Los Angeles fantasy. This isn't the house for someone looking for quaint or understated. Donella is what happens when someone asks, What if we just put everything in And then actually does it.

What we love

The sheer completeness of it. Donella doesn't make you choose between a spectacular house and a spectacular backyard. Or between entertaining and wellness. Or between views and privacy. It just keeps going. The main living spaces open through enormous walls of glass toward the pool and view. Outside, the infinity pool and spa are joined by that sunken fire pit, creating one of those ridiculous LA scenes that looks more like a rendering than somewhere you're actually allowed to sit. Then there is the rooftop. At roughly 2,000 square feet, it's not an afterthought with two chairs and a potted plant. It's another legitimate entertaining level above the city. Inside, you have a gym, billiard and recreation spaces, theater, office, wine cellar and multiple places for a group to spread out. Our favorite part may simply be discovering it. In a house this big, you can imagine being there for a week and still occasionally thinking, Wait, what's down here?

Keep in mind

Donella is enormous and extremely modern. If your idea of luxury is a cozy California bungalow or a house with a little patina, keep scrolling. It's also built vertically across three levels. There is an elevator, which helps enormously, but this is still a house where life happens on multiple floors.

Work Mode

There's a real office and enough square footage to disappear completely when work needs to happen. With this many other places for everyone to be, nobody needs to whisper because you're on a call.

This house is just crazy. The glass, the pool, that sunken firepit, the rooftop—every time you think they've run out of things to add, there's another level. It's bold, modern and completely over the top. This is the full LA fantasy with absolutely nothing edited out.

I like that the scale actually gives you useful things: elevator, gym, theater, office, big bedroom suites, wine cellar and multiple outdoor areas. If you're going to build a house this enormous, this is how you make the size work.

Donella doesn't believe in restraint. For this house, restraint would have ruined the fun.

Getting around

You're tucked into residential Bel Air, so this is a driving house. Beverly Hills, Westwood, Brentwood, the Getty and the rest of the Westside are accessible once you come down the hill, but Donella is really designed to make leaving feel optional.
