Glen Ellen Forested Retreat

Glen Ellen, CA

Opening Snapshot

Tucked deep into the hills of Glen Ellen and reached by a long, winding road with two gated entrances, this home feels like a world of its own. Towering trees, wide green lawns, and a seasonal creek create the energy of a private woodland sanctuary. What we love

Once you reach the property, the setting is instantly calming: endless lawn, mature trees, and that forested quiet that’s hard to find in Wine Country. The main house doesn’t wow from the outside, but inside it’s beautiful with soaring ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a modern great room that makes you feel connected to the outdoors. Four bedrooms sit on the main level, with a small TV room that can flex as extra sleeping space. Down the steps, the pool area feels like a boutique resort with a pergola, lounges, and outdoor dining. The guest house mirrors the modern style in miniature and adds a sweet loft for kids. A bonus game room under the main house gives younger guests their own hideaway. Altogether, it’s a clean, contemporary compound made for downtime and long stays.

Keep in Mind

The drive in includes a stretch of dirt road that can feel tricky in the dark or rain, though it quickly becomes familiar. The architecture leans simple and boxy, and the interiors are extremely minimal, clean but lacking warmth or personality. There’s no true office (though the guest house is a great option) and only one small TV room, which isn’t ideal if movies matter to you. Parking is uncovered in the driveway, and moving between car and house means being exposed to the elements, though weather here is usually forgiving.

The Brag

Joe B. lens:

For me, the magic is the land: the redwoods, the creek, the wide lawn, the total sense of stillness. It’s the kind of place where you can unplug completely, write, reflect, or just breathe.

Joe R. lens:

I loved the simplicity and calm of the interiors. The clean lines, the big windows, the bright open living space, it all makes the house effortless to live in. And the pool area is fantastic.

Together we agree:

This is a nature-centered retreat for guests who value quiet, greenery, and privacy over flash or frills.

Getting Around

The home is deep in the Glen Ellen hills, surrounded by trails, quiet roads, and a local pond. Glen Ellen’s markets, restaurants, and wineries are a short drive away, with Sonoma just beyond.
