Moon Mountain Hacienda
Sonoma, CA

Opening Snapshot
Perched high on Moon Mountain with sweeping, panoramic views that stretch all the way to San Francisco and the bay, this Spanish-style hacienda feels like the kind of Wine Country hideaway people dream about but rarely find. The arrival is dramatic, sky, vineyards, and ridgelines in every direction, and the house sits quietly above it all, offering a level of privacy and perspective that’s hard to match. From the moment you step onto the patio, you just want to stay put and stare at the horizon.

What we love
The setting is extraordinary. The drive up the mountain is winding but beautifully maintained, and the reward is a property that sits alone on its own piece of sky. Inside, the great room opens to vaulted ceilings and massive windows that frame the view like artwork, a classic Wine Country aesthetic that feels warm, traditional, and deeply rooted in place. The primary suite upstairs is spacious and romantic, with its own fireplace and private terrace. Downstairs, the rec room is huge, complete with pocket doors that close it off as a true retreat, and both guest bedrooms feature ensuite bathrooms and fireplaces of their own, a luxurious touch for cool Sonoma evenings. The outdoor spaces spill down the hillside in layers: patios, viewing decks, and a stunning pool compound that’s perfectly perched for sunset. A sweet one-bedroom guest cottage connected by a covered loggia adds flexibility for visitors or a quiet office escape. Throughout the home, personal touches and meaningful mementos give the house real soul.

Keep in Mind
The gravel arrival courtyard can feel a bit unpolished, especially after rain, and doesn’t quite match the beauty of the setting once you’re inside. The house is around 18 years old, and some interiors, especially the kitchen with its darker wood tones and granite, feel a bit dated compared to newer Wine Country designs. There’s no dedicated office in the main house, and the décor leans traditional rather than modern. Still, the overall quality, craftsmanship, and personality more than carry the experience.
The Brag
Joe B. lens:
The views are everything. Truly. Watching the light move across the valley, seeing San Francisco in the distance, sipping wine around that pool, it’s the kind of setting you remember for years. And olive trees that surround the property transport you to the old world.
Joe R. lens:
I loved the authenticity of the architecture and the way the spaces flow outdoors. The decks, the patios, the loggia, the pool, it all unfolds naturally. The house may be older, but it has character, warmth, and a sense of place that newer homes often lack.
Together we agree:
If you crave views, privacy, and personality, this hacienda delivers big. It’s a true Wine Country perch.

Getting Around
You’re deep in the Moon Mountain hills with total privacy, yet just a drive down to Sonoma, Glen Ellen, or Kenwood for dining, tasting rooms, and markets. The road is winding but well maintained, classic mountain living with unbeatable payoff.
