After some of the enormous Park City houses we've been looking at, I actually find this one refreshing. Park City Deer Valley Drive is a three-bedroom townhome in Lower Deer Valley, and its appeal is much simpler: comfortable mountain living in a location that makes both Deer Valley and Park City easy to enjoy.The interiors lean warm and traditional rather than aggressively contemporary. The scale feels residential. You don't have seven bedrooms, three entertainment rooms and a private spa complex to navigate. For the right family, I think that's a strength. This feels like a place where you'd settle into a routine quickly: ski Deer Valley, come home, clean up and head into Park City for dinner without feeling like you've rented more house than you need. On a month-long stay, there's something to be said for a home that feels like a home rather than a private hotel. And, that indoor hot tub feels just right after a long day on the mountain!

What we love

I like the approachable scale. There are trips when a huge amenity house is exactly what I want, but there are also trips where I'd rather have a comfortable living room, three proper bedrooms and a good location. Lower Deer Valley is also a nice middle ground. You're connected to the ski experience without isolating yourself from Park City. Architecturally, this is more traditional mountain than modern chalet, which suits the townhome scale. It doesn't feel like it's trying to compete with the giant Deer Valley estates. It knows what it is.

Keep in mind

Don't choose this expecting a private theater, game room, gym or giant outdoor entertaining area. Its strength is location and ease, not an enormous amenity list. I also wouldn't call it ski-in/ski-out. Deer Valley is close, but plan on using the appropriate resort transportation, shuttle or vehicle connection rather than stepping directly onto a run.

Work Mode

This is perfectly workable for someone who needs to stay connected during a longer trip, although there's no dedicated executive office that changes the story of the house.

The brag

I like that it feels like a real mountain home. Sometimes I'd rather have three bedrooms in a location I love than seven bedrooms I don't need twenty minutes farther away.

This is the kind of place where I'd focus less on amenities and more on the fact that Deer Valley is right there. Get me skiing quickly and I'm pretty easy to please.

The appeal is simple: right-sized house, Deer Valley nearby and Park City still very much part of the stay.

Getting around

A car isn't necessary for every outing, but I'd plan on using Park City's fare-free transportation or a vehicle. Deer Valley's Snow Park area is nearby, while Historic Main Street's restaurants, bars, galleries and shops are a short trip away rather than directly outside the door. The primary ski mountain is Deer Valley Resort, which is ski-only. Snowboarders in the group should use Park City Mountain instead. In summer, Deer Valley becomes a strong hiking and mountain-biking destination, and Main Street remains an easy destination for dinner and shopping.
