Villa Kaleida is not pretending nobody throws parties in the Hollywood Hills. It knows exactly why that infinity pool is there. Walls of glass disappear toward a cabana, outdoor kitchen, dining terrace and water seemingly spilling toward the city below. This is contemporary Los Angeles at its most social: music on, doors open, somebody making drinks, dinner outside and the skyline gradually turning into city lights. But what keeps Kaleida from becoming another cold trophy house is that the entertainment spaces actually feel connected. The pool isn’t stranded at the bottom of a hillside. The cabana isn’t decorative. Indoor and outdoor rooms operate together, which makes the whole house feel more relaxed than its polished architecture suggests. If some Hollywood Hills houses are galleries, Villa Kaleida is a really good dinner party.
