Sunset Estate was built in 1926, which means it was already here before the Chateau Marmont opened, before the first Academy Awards and before Beverly Hills became global shorthand for glamour. That gives us permission to have a little fun with it. Imagine the house in the late 1920s: formal dinner inside, somebody arriving far too late in an enormous car, Hollywood still inventing itself a few miles away. Now fast-forward a century and the estate has evolved into a nine-bedroom playground with a vast pool, Jacuzzi, sunken circular firepit, outdoor bar, barbecue station and a court set up for pickleball or padel. The wonderful contradiction is that the old Beverly Hills bones remain while the backyard has become a private resort. Sunset Estate has survived a century by learning some very good new tricks.
